I went to the 2022 Venice Biennale, and I was struck by the number of groups of people who were sharing a meal , but were not talking to each other. They were talking on their mobiles.

I found this in Spain too, when I was in the Canaries the following February. I noticed that although the breakfast was from 7 to 10 am, many people came to the dining room just before 10 and continued for a further 30 mins or more, causing the staff to work extra hours, they are unlikely to be paid for this extra time. 

So maybe this series of paintings may be better called 'The selfishness/thoughtlessness of some folks.'
